How to choose

Questions

Is a custom GPT the same as an AI agent?

Not quite. A custom GPT is ChatGPT with saved instructions and files that you talk to. An AI agent usually has persistent memory, connects to several of your tools, and can carry out multi-step tasks within permissions you set.

Can an AI agent replace a virtual assistant?

For routine, repeatable work such as drafting, scheduling, and summarizing, often yes. For work that depends on relationships, empathy, or judgment calls, a human is still the better choice, and many owners use both.

Which should I start with?

If you have one well-defined task, try a custom GPT first. If you are re-explaining your business every day across many tasks, a custom agent is worth considering. If the work needs human judgment or a human voice on the phone, hire an assistant.
